Gov. Hutchinson Appoints A-State Alumnus Niel Crowson to Second Term on ASU System Board
Gov. Asa Hutchinson appointed Niel Crowson of Jonesboro, a 1975 graduate of Arkansas State University, to a second five-year term on the ASU System Board of Trustees. Crowson, who is chairman of the board and president of E.C. Barton & Company of Jonesboro, was first appointed by Hutchinson in 2015 and served as chair of the ASU Board in 2019. His reappointment expires in January 2025.
ADE, A-State and APSRC Announce New Partnership to Provide Statewide Online Coding Curriculum
The Arkansas Department of Education, Arkansas State University and the Arkansas Public School Resource Center today announced a partnership program to provide a statewide online coding curriculum starting with the fall 2020 semester. The first offering of its type to the high school students of Arkansas, the UpSkill program is designed to support the Governor’s initiative on computer science skills. The course structure leads students through a nine-month curriculum that prepares them to receive a certificate in Swift coding.
Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees Approves Henderson State Merger Agreement
The Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees today approved a merger agreement and transition plan with Henderson State University, which would become the ASU System’s seventh member institution. Previously approved by the Henderson Board of Trustees on Nov. 21, the agreement is subject to approval of the Higher Learning Commission and action by the Arkansas General Assembly. ASU System President Chuck Welch said the target for completing the transition is Jan. 1, 2021.
Henderson State Board Approves Merger Agreement, Transition Plan to Join Arkansas State University System
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Henderson State University Board of Trustees today approved a merger agreement and transition plan with the Arkansas State University System. The agreement is subject to approval of the ASU Board of Trustees and the Higher Learning Commission, as well as action by the Arkansas General Assembly. ASU System President Chuck Welch said the system board will be asked to approve the agreement at its regular meeting on Dec. 6 in Little Rock and the target for completing the transition would be Jan. 1, 2021.
Arkansas State Establishes New Scholarship Plan for Active Duty Military
To honor America’s service members, Arkansas State University has established a special scholarship plan for all United States active duty personnel and their spouses. The plan reduces all tuition for active duty personnel and their spouses at Arkansas State to equal the federal government tuition assistance program standard per credit hour rate.

The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program today named Arkansas State University-Beebe and Arkansas State University-Mountain Home among the 150 community colleges eligible to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America's community colleges.
