ASU-Newport Empowers Students to 'Navigate in 8' with New 8-Week General Education Courses Plan

NEWPORT, Ark. – Arkansas State University-Newport (ASUN) announced the launch of its "Navigate in 8" initiative, which gives students the opportunity to complete core general education courses in just eight weeks at the Newport campus.
Beginning this fall, students can enroll in accelerated courses during two shortened terms:
- First Flex Term: Aug. 18 to Oct. 10
- Second Flex Term: Oct. 15 to Dec. 12
This flexible format allows students to move through their academic journey faster while maintaining quality and support.
“ASU-Newport is committed to meeting students where they are,” said Dr. Typhanie Myers, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs. “The Navigate in 8 model helps students build momentum toward their degree while balancing work, family, and life. It’s about flexibility, focus, and finishing strong.”
A few courses available during the first 8-week term include:
- College Algebra
- College and Life Skills
- Composition I
- General Chemistry I & Lab
- Human Anatomy & Physiology I & Lab
- Introduction to Computers
- Oral Communication
- Principles of Sociology
- The United States to 1876
- World Civilization to 1660 AND MORE!
