JONESBORO, Ark. — A record number of graduates received diplomas during Arkansas State University’s summer commencement ceremony Friday, Aug. 5, in the Convocation Center.
Acting chancellor Dr. Lynita Cooksey conferred degrees upon 949 graduating seniors, the largest number in a summer graduation in A-State history.
Of the summer class, 43 candidates graduated with honors, including 21 cum laude, 17 magna cum laude and five with university honors from the Honors College. In addition, international students representing 12 countries received their diplomas.
Kaitlin Sellers of Hardy, received a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science, addressed the audience on behalf of the graduating class. She graduated magna cum laude and was the recipient of an individual award for the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences during the spring semester.
