Where Your Future Takes Flight

ASU-Newport (ASUN) is two-year community college in northeast Arkansas that emphasizes accessibility, affordability, and responsiveness to regional workforce needs.

ASUN has three campuses locations in Newport, Jonesboro and Marked Tree, plus robust online offerings.

The college offers a wide array of associate degrees, technical certificates, and certificates of proficiency in fields such as advanced manufacturing, business, nursing, automotive service, computer networking, agriculture, welding, and health sciences.

ASUN’s commitment to workforce alignment shows in hands-on technical education and partnerships with industry in the region.

 

Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts program on the Jonesboro campus of ASU-Newport provides foundational training in culinary techniques and kitchen management. The program covers essential skills such as knife handling, cooking methods, and food safety. Students learn to prepare a variety of dishes, including appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The curriculum includes courses on nutrition, menu planning, and cost control. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in the culinary industry, such as line cooks, prep cooks, or kitchen assistants. The program emphasizes practical skills and hands-on experience, providing students with the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in a professional kitchen environment.

Advanced Manufacturing

ASU-Newport’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology program teaches the skills you need for today’s manufacturing facilities and machine shops. The manufacturing industry uses advanced computer-aided drafting, programming, machining and computer numerically controlled machines (CNC) to design, manufacture and deliver products to the customer. Students receive hands-on experience in, computer numerically controlled machines, computer-aided design and drafting, and machining. This exciting program trains students that are in demand from companies such as Unilever, Best Manufacturing, ABB and Alexander’s Machine Shop.

High Voltage Lineman

The High Voltage Lineman Technology program at ASU-Newport prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills needed to install, repair, service, and maintain electrical power lines and supporting equipment. The program includes instruction in AC/DC electrical theory, safety, transformers, tools, material, testing equipment, pole framing, and bucket and digger derrick trucks. The program also includes instruction in the construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of underground electrical systems.

Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology Program at ASU-Newport equips students with the specialized skills needed to step confidently into the fast-paced environment of the operating room. From setting up sterile fields to anticipating the needs of the surgical team, students learn to perform critical roles that ensure the safety and well-being of surgical patients. Graduates are eligible to sit for the national certification exam through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Successful candidates earn the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential, demonstrating their expertise and readiness to work in hospitals, surgery centers, and other healthcare settings.

Navigate in 8 Initiative

Arkansas State University-Newport launched its “Navigate in 8” initiative, which gives students the opportunity to complete core general education courses in just eight weeks at the Newport campus. Students can enroll in accelerated courses during two shortened terms and move through their academic journey faster while maintaining quality and support.
