Colleagues, Happy New Year! I hope your spring semester is off to a great start and you had a wonderful holiday season. As we start this new semester, I wanted to touch base with you on our upcoming chancellor search. As you know, I indicated that we would formally begin this process in January. This has already been a hectic month for me with the beginning of the legislative session and discussions related to our new funding formula taking up a significant amount of time. However, I am now prepared to turn my attention to the search. I met with the Faculty Senate and the Staff Senate at the end of the fall semester to obtain input and feedback regarding the position announcement. Each of these bodies provided me with outstanding ideas for the types of characteristics, experiences, and leadership traits we desire in our next chancellor. The next steps will be to distribute a draft position announcement for review by the entire campus. You will have an opportunity to provide your input and suggestions at that time. I will also appoint a chancellor search advisory committee to assist in the search process. I still have a few campus constituency meetings to conduct before taking these next steps, but I do anticipate moving quickly with the process.
